Here are the steps and techniques for placing veneer on a roll:

  1. Prepare the surface. The surface on which you're going to glue the veneer must be clean, smooth and free of dust and grease. Sand the surface if necessary to make it smooth.
  2. Choose a glue suitable for the wood and substrate (vinyl, neoprene or polyurethane glue).
  3. Apply the glue to the surface on which you'll be gluing the veneer. You can use a brush, roller or spatula (or glue gun). The entire surface of the wood should be glued. Not too much, to avoid excess and drips.
  4. Place the veneer on the surface, aligning edges and corners. Remove air bubbles if necessary.
  5. Use an iron or roller to press the veneer to the surface. Leave the weight on for the duration of the drying time.
  6. Allow to dry. This may take several hours or even days, depending on the type of glue you've used.
  7. Finish the job by cutting off any protruding ends with scissors or a cutter. Finish the surface and corners with fine-grain sandpaper (from 180)
